# What Troopy is and how it works

> The parts of Troopy, where each part runs, what Troopy does not do, and where each place of the app is.

Troopy gives your business a troop of AI teammates. Each teammate has a job, works in the app at any hour, and asks a
person before it does a thing that people rely on. This page tells what the parts of Troopy are, where each part runs,
and where to find each place of the app.

## The parts of Troopy

| Part | What it is |
| -------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Organization | Your company in Troopy. It owns the people, their roles and the AI plans. |
| Workspace | One business, brand or client. Its teammates, tasks, docs, keys, cloud computer and plan live there. |
| Teammate | An AI teammate with a role, such as Content writer or Outreach. It works on tasks and talks in chat. |
| Troop | All the teammates of a workspace. |
| Chief of Staff | The lead teammate. Every workspace has one. It answers you first, plans work and hands it on. |
| Person | A human of the organization: an owner, an admin, a member, an approver, a viewer or a guest. |
| Brain | What the troop knows about the business: docs, sources, memory files and facts. |
| Products | The tools of the business in Troopy, such as Docs, Email, the CRM, Analytics and Surveys. |

## How work moves

1. A person asks for work in a chat, in the troop chat or as a task. A routine or a trigger can start work too.
2. The work becomes a task on the board, with a teammate who does it.
3. The teammate works in runs. A run reads the brain, uses its tools and writes its answer on the task.
4. When the teammate needs a person, the task waits in **Needs you**. A person answers, approves or sends it back.
5. When the work is done, the task goes to **In review** or **Done**. The teammate posts the result in the troop chat.

A teammate never sends, posts, pays or deletes a thing that people rely on with no yes. An owner or admin can give a
grant for some work, with limits. See [Stay in control of your troop](/docs/control).

## What runs where

| Part | Where it runs |
| ------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| The app | troopy.ai, in your browser. |
| The runs of teammates | The cloud computer of the workspace. Each workspace has its own. |
| The AI | The AI plan that your organization already pays for, signed in on that computer. |
| The browser of a teammate | A Chrome of its own on the cloud computer. You can watch it live. |
| Your data | Troopy's database. Troopy seals each key and each vault value. |

The sign-in of your AI plan stays on the cloud computer. Troopy keeps no copy of it in its database. See
[Connect your AI plan](/docs/ai-plan).

## When teammates work

- When a person asks: in a chat, in the troop chat, in a comment with an @mention, or with a task.
- On a schedule: a routine runs at its days and time. See [Schedule work with routines](/docs/routines).
- When something happens: a trigger starts a teammate on an event. See
  [Start work when something happens](/docs/triggers).
- When a teammate hands work on: the Chief of Staff gives a part of a big job to another teammate.

Teammates keep working when you close the app. Each run uses your AI plan, and each teammate has limits for each
day. See [Limits and defaults](/docs/limits).

### The sidebar

| Part | What it does |
| ----------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Workspace menu | At the top. Switch the workspace, and open **Settings**, **Profile** and **Sign out**. |
| **Search** | Opens ⌘K: go to a page, find a task, a doc or a teammate, or do a common action. |
| **Home** | Your message box to the troop, what needs you, and the routines of today. |
| **Needs you** | The questions, approvals, reviews and drafts that wait for you. |
| **Tasks** | The board and the list of the work. **Projects** is under it. |
| **Calendar** and **Routines** | The work that runs on a schedule or on an event. |
| **Products** | The products that you pinned, and **See all**, which opens the Products page. |
| **Your troop** | The troop chat, each teammate with what it does now, and **Hire a teammate**. |

### The dock

The dock is the row of buttons at the bottom of the sidebar.

| Button | What it opens |
| -------- | ------------------------------------------------------ |
| **?** | **Help and support**, **What's new** and **Activity**. |
| Brain | The brain of the workspace. |
| Apps | **Settings** > **Apps**, where you connect services. |
| Skills | The skills of the troop. |
| Bell | Your notifications. |
| Settings | **Settings**. |

The button beside the workspace menu folds the sidebar to a rail of icons. On a phone, the sidebar opens from the
menu button.

### The page of a teammate

Select a teammate in the sidebar to open its chat. Its header has the switch to **Overview**, **Call**,
**Watch computer** and **Configure**. **Overview** shows its numbers, its drafts, its routines and its work.

## What Troopy does not do

- It does not send an email, post, pay or merge code with no yes, unless an owner or admin gave a grant.
- It does not show a vault value to a teammate. A teammate uses a login by reference only.
- It does not merge code by itself. A person releases, or a grant of an owner or admin does.
- It does not reach into a service that you did not connect.
