MCP servers
Add the MCP server of a service that Apps does not list, and choose which of its tools run and which wait for a yes.
Add the MCP server of a service that Apps does not list yet. Your teammates then call its tools. A tool that the server marks as one that only reads runs at once. Each other tool waits for the yes of an owner or admin.
Before you begin
- Owners and admins add, change and remove a custom app. Everyone in the workspace sees the list.
- The address of the server starts with
https://. Troopy uses Streamable HTTP, so the address usually ends in/mcp. - Troopy does not add a server that runs as a command, or an SSE server.
Add a server
- Open Settings > Apps > Custom.
- Select Add an MCP server.
- Paste the address of the server, or the JSON config that its docs give for an MCP client.
- Check the name. The id of the app comes from it, as in
acme_crm. - If the server gave you a key, type it in Key. For a header other than
Authorization: Bearer, type the name of the header too. - Select Connect the server.
Troopy reads the tools of the server at once. A config block with several servers adds each of them.
A server that signs you in
Leave the key empty. When the server asks for a sign-in, the app waits for it, and Sign in to the app shows.
- Select Sign in to the app.
- Approve Troopy on the page of the server.
- The server sends you back to Custom. The tools of the app are there.
Troopy renews the sign-in by itself. When the server ends it, the app shows Waits for a sign-in again.
Choose what each tool does
Select Tools on the row of the app. Each tool has one of three modes:
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Runs | A teammate calls it at once. |
| Asks first | The call waits in Needs you for the yes of an owner or admin. |
| Off | No teammate calls it. |
A new tool runs at once only when the server marks it as one that only reads. That is the word of the server, so set a tool that changes something to Asks first.
List the tools again reads the server again. A tool keeps its mode. Only a person brings new words of a server in.
What teammates see
Each teammate has the custom apps of its workspace, with each tool that is not off. The words of a server are material for a teammate, never instructions. A teammate can't add a server, and no standing rule approves a call.
Limits
- A workspace adds 10 custom apps.
- Troopy keeps 40 tools of a server.
- A call has 60 seconds, and a call after a yes has 30.
- Troopy reads 2 MB of an answer at most.
Change or remove an app
- A new key replaces the old one, and Troopy reads the tools again.
- Remove forgets the key or the sign-in. A call that waits for a yes then fails.
