Work with your troop

Talk to one teammate in its chat, attach docs and files, ask for a skill, and talk to it by voice.

Each teammate has a chat of its own. You talk to one teammate there, give it work, read what it does, and call it by voice. This page tells how to use the chat of a teammate and its call.

Open the chat of a teammate

Select the teammate under Your troop in the sidebar. Its chat opens. The header of the page has these parts:

PartWhat it does
Face and nameThe face moves while the teammate works. A glowing ember shows when it needs you.
Chat and OverviewSwitches between the chat and the overview of the teammate.
CallStarts a voice call with the teammate.
Watch computerShows the screen of the computer of your troop. Owners and admins only.
ConfigureOpens the settings of the teammate in Settings > Troop.
A lineWhat the teammate does now, such as "Working: writes the post of Friday".

Overview shows the numbers of the teammate, its drafts, its routines and its work.

Talk to the teammate

  1. Type in the box. It says "Message" and the name of the teammate.
  2. Select Send, or press Enter. Shift with Enter starts a new line.

The teammate answers in the chat. While it works, a thinking orb shows, with a line that says what it does and the time since it started. Under the answer, a line such as "Worked for 34 s · 5 steps" opens each step of the run.

While the teammate works, you can still write. The box says "Add to what" the teammate "is working on". The teammate reads your new message in the same run, or in the next run.

What you can add to a message

ControlWhat it does
@Brings another teammate into the conversation.
/ at the startOpens the skills of the teammate. The message asks for that skill.
#Links a doc, as a link that the teammate reads.
AttachAdds text, PDF or Word files. Troopy keeps them in the brain.
Add a doc, task or interview to readAdds docs, tasks, interviews, research, canvases or lists.

A teammate gets only what its tools read. The chip of each thing that you add shows over the box.

Threads

Each conversation can open threads in a column at the right edge. Select Reply in thread under an answer. The header then shows only the face, the name and the job, so that the chat keeps its place.

What a teammate shows in its answers

  • Cites: the chips under an answer name the docs and notes of the brain that the answer used. A chip opens its doc. Select "That's wrong" on a note that is wrong. See Manage what your troop remembers.
  • Approvals: a call that needs a yes shows as a card. Owners and admins decide some calls. See Answer what needs you.
  • Drafts: what the teammate wrote for you to use. A brief, a copy or an article goes to Docs too.
  • Pictures: cards, art and screenshots that the teammate made for the task.

Call a teammate

A call lets you talk to the teammate. Each thing that you ask goes to the teammate as a typed ask, with the same approvals and limits as a message.

  1. Select Call in the header. If the browser asks, allow the microphone.
  2. Talk. The teammate speaks first. The screen shows the captions of the call.
  3. To type, select Type. The call ends, and the cursor goes to the box of the chat.
  4. To end the call, select End call.
ControlWhat it does
MicrophoneTurns the microphone off and on.
Minimize, or EscapeMakes the call a small bar. The call stays on. Select the bar to open it again.
TypeEnds the call, and lets you type.
End callEnds the call.

When the teammate finishes the work that you asked for, it says the answer on the call. The chat keeps what both sides said. The chat shows "on a call" for that conversation.
