Use Troopy for Mac
Install the Mac app, sign in one time, and get notifications, the count in the Dock, ⌥⌘K and the menu bar.
Troopy for Mac is the app of Troopy for your Mac. It shows every page of the web app in a window of its own. It also adds notifications of macOS, a count in the Dock, a key for Search from any app, and a menu in the menu bar. This page tells how to install the app, sign in, and sign out.
Download and install
Troopy for Mac needs macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. Apple notarizes each version, so macOS knows that the app comes from Troopy.
- Select Download Troopy for Mac. Your browser downloads a DMG file.
- Open the DMG file, and drag Troopy to Applications.
- Open Troopy from Applications.
- If macOS asks about an app from the internet, select Open.
You sign in one time, in your browser. The one sign-in works in each workspace that you can open, also as a guest.
- In the app, select Log in. Your browser opens Troopy, and the app shows Waiting for the browser.
- Log in to Troopy, if your browser is not logged in yet.
- On Connect Troopy for Mac, select Allow. The browser sends you back to the app.
The app opens the workspace that is open in your browser. To go to another workspace, use the workspace menu at the top of the sidebar, as in the web app.
The app keeps its sign-in in the Keychain of your Mac. If you do not use the app for 60 days, log in again.
What the app adds
| Part | What it does |
|---|---|
| Notifications | While Troopy is not in front, the news of the bell comes as a notification of macOS. Select it to open its page. |
| The Dock | The icon of Troopy shows the count of Needs you. |
| ⌥⌘K | From any app, Troopy comes to the front with Search open. |
| The menu bar | The mark of Troopy opens a menu: Needs you, Home, Tasks, Troop chat and Search. |
At the first launch, macOS asks if Troopy can send notifications. Select Allow. The switches of the bell in Settings > Notifications also choose which notifications come. See Choose your notifications.
A notification that you select is then read. While Troopy is in front, the bell shows the news, and macOS shows no notification.

Updates
Troopy for Mac updates itself. It finds each new version, then downloads it and installs it. You do not download the app again.
What opens in your browser
The app opens these pages in your browser:
- the docs
- a share link, such as the link of a shared doc or of the public dashboard
- an invite, and the link to set a new password, from an email
- a link to another site
Your passkeys work in the app: the unlock of the Vault, Show and Copy of a hidden value, Import and your private items. To add your first passkey, the app opens Settings > Security in your browser, because it asks for a recent sign-in. After that, a passkey that iCloud Keychain keeps works in the app too.
Sign out
- In the app, open the workspace menu at the top of the sidebar, then select Sign out. Or, in the menu bar of macOS, select Troopy > Sign Out.
- In the web app, open Settings > Security. Apps that sign in as you lists Troopy for Mac. Select Revoke to sign it out at once.
A sign-out ends the sign-in of the app, and the app forgets it on your Mac. A new password signs out the app too.
